Know the Difference Between H1 and H2 Lubricants?
In food processing plants, it's important that operations and maintenance managers understand the difference between H1 and H2 lubricants. H1 lubricants are suitable for incidental, technically unavoidable contact with a food product. These lubricants may be safely used for handling, canning, bottling, blending, chilling, cooking, cutting, slicing and peeling, on machinery components such as pumps, mixers, gearboxes, chain drives and conveyor belts. H1 lubricants may be used above the line. H2 lubricants are suitable for use in food processing applications, provided that contact with the food product is absolutely impossible. H2 lubricants may be used below the line. For more information on this topic, please read Machinery Lubrication’s November/December issue, where there will be a feature article on this topic.
